How EasyRoads chooses routes
Easier driving for cars, campervans and motorhomes in Great Britain
EasyRoads prefers main roads when the extra journey time is reasonable. It compares complete route options using your chosen vehicle profile. Start with a car, campervan or motorhome profile, then open Size and weight to adjust its starter values for your vehicle.
Recorded restrictions come first. A conflicting height, width, length or weight limit removes that road from consideration. Missing information is treated as unknown, never as proof that the vehicle fits.
What it considers
- The dimensions and weights in your chosen vehicle profile.
- Recorded legal restrictions on the road network.
- Road type, route continuity and other mapped road characteristics.
- Journey time and how much smaller-road driving an alternative avoids.
- Where the available road evidence is incomplete.
What the driver sees
The app shows the selected route, its expected time and specific differences that help compare it with the alternatives. It does not present an internal score as a safety rating.
Limits
- EasyRoads does not claim that a route is safe, clear or independently verified.
- Open mapping does not record every restriction, usable width, passing place or road condition.
- Times are free-flowing driving times. They do not include traffic, roadworks or time waiting at junctions.
- Routing currently covers England, Scotland and Wales.
- The driver remains responsible for entering the vehicle correctly and following signs and conditions on the road.
The exact routing model is versioned and evaluated internally so a released result can be traced to the model and road data that produced it.
